NJSAMS Updates

Dear Provider,

As a result of feedback received from the providers and the MCOs, NJSAMS will be issuing updates to the most recent release of NJSAMS. These changes will become effective on January 23, 2025.

If a provider is requesting prior authorization from an MCO, NJSAMS will require the completed NPI fields. When a provider attempts to submit a request without a complete NPI they will be prompted to complete the NPI fields. When the NPI is entered the PA request can be submitted. If a client is not Medicaid enrolled there will be no requirement for an NPI number in NJSAMS.

The CIWA and COWS will include a Not Assessed option to all questions. “Not Assessed” will be added to each question in the screens and this will allow providers to complete the fields without actually performing the screening.

The mandatory fields for the provider phone number in the LOCI will be labeled “Counselor/Supervisor Phone Number”. MCOs have requested the phone number of provider staff that can discuss or report on the client’s needs and the specific prior authorization request.

There will be a new question and fields for providers to add a fax number into NJSAMS. These fields are not currently mandatory but may be necessary for communications with the MCOs.
